Study Shows Settling Outside of Court May be Best Option for Personal Injury Plaintiffs

A study, conducted in 2008, reveals that the majority of the time, it is in the best interest of the plaintiff in a civil case to settle out of court. The decision to go to court results in negative financial consequences for a personal injury plaintiff 61.2 percent of the time and 80.8 percent for a medical malpractice plaintiff.

Virginia Ends Aerial Speed Enforcement

Virginia's Aerial Speed Enforcement program has come to a halt due to budget cuts in the State Budget. An expensive yet effective method of enforcing the speed limit on Virginia State Highways, the program conducted its last air sweep in November of 2009. Virginia drivers no longer need to heed the "Speed Limit Enforced by Aircraft" signs along the side of highway. However, standard speed enforcement will be heavily enforced along designated stretches and Virginia drivers should always heed posted speed limit signs as excessive speeding is often the cause of Virginia personal injury and wrongful death.

Study Shows that Virginia Automobile Accidents Might Decrease with Later School Start Times

Virginia teenage automobile accidents may increase as teenagers get less and less sleep. Early school start times contribute to the sleep debt of teenagers. A study conducted in Kansas showed a correlation in the reduction of traffic accidents by pushing school start times back by an hour at the middle and high school levels.
