In June 2005, our client was involved in a car wreck in Prince William County in Virginia. She was driving west on Heathcoate Boulevard when another driver ran a stop sign and hit our client's car. The police were called to the scene and our client was nervous and shaking, but decided to go on to a class she was driving to when the collision occurred.

Within 2 hours, she was having a throbbing pain in her left eye and seeing white streaks. She called the emergency room at the Kaiser Pemanente facility and was told to come in immediately. She was diagnosed with a detached vitreous retina. Since age three, our client had vision problems with her right eye so she was very afraid of losing vision in her left eye, which was her only good one.

Our client came under the care of Capital Eye Consultants and was diagnosed with acute posterior vitreous detachment, including some pre-retinal hemorrhage and a Weiss ring. She also had an operculated retinal hole, likely as a result of the posterior vitreous detachment. Laser surgery was performed to prevent possible full retinal detachment.

Our client made a good recovery from this procedure. We were able to settle the Virginia personal injury case with the insurance company for the other driver after a lawsuit was filed, and after discovery and depositions had taken place.
